What is Identity Politics?

The laden phrase “identity politics” has come to signify a wide range of political activity and theorizing founded in the shared experiences of injustice of members of certain social groups. It is a concept that identifies a political approach in which political ideologies of a particular race, ethnicity, culture, gender, or religion form alliances and mobilize to protect the interests of their party politically.

How did it emerge?

Identity politics emerged in the the second half of the twentieth century. such as second-wave feminism, Black Civil Rights in the U.S., gay and lesbian emancipation, and American Indian movement. sSuch social movements are backed by and stimulate an academic body of literature that raises questions about the nature, past, and potential of the identities that are being defended.

How was identity politics gone too far?

There are numerous countries that have gone too far with identity politics, that not a surprise but a a good example would be the United States, there is a foreseeable split in what people believe in within the country.
