Two world events that impacted on my life before I was born

  1. Philippines Independence Day (June 12, 1989)

President Diosdado Macapagal signed the Republic Act № 4166, which legalized the date, which was technically based on the Independence Day that Emilio Aguinaldo signed on June 12, 1898. This was the first time that the Philippine flag was raised and the national anthem was first heard on 1898.

2. Newborn Screening (1960's)

This was explained to me by my mother and cousin, which is a process done formerly in the United States, which was later on followed up in the Philippines. Newborn screening is a program where they take blood samples from newborn babies, ideally from the heel of the baby. From there, doctors can detect the rare genetic, hormone-related, and metabolic conditions that can cause serious health problems.

Two world events that impacted on my life when I was born

  1. Taal Volcano Eruption (2020)

The eruption of Taal had a huge impact on everyone’s lives in the Philippines, especially those who live in Luzon. My family were one of those who were told to be ready for evacuation, for their own safety. At the time, I was in Taft because I had school, even thought Manila has quite some distance from Batangas, the ashes reached us. It had a big impact on our lives because it made us realize how easy it is to impact the lives of those who do not deserve it.

2. Polio Outbreak (2019–2020)

The polio outbreak was somewhat an eye opener for some people because this was dubbed to be eradicated from the Philippines. When I was born, I was given the vaccine for polio (OPV). They only occur when the vaccine virus is allowed to pass from person to person for a long time, which can only happen in places with limited immunization coverage and inadequate sanitation and hygiene.

Two world events that will impact my life in the future

  1. Coronavirus Pandemic (2020)

I think this is very self explanatory, to see what is happening now in our lives. the COVID-19 out break did not just affect a certain area of the world, it affected all of us who live in this planet. We are now living in a time where the game “Fallout” does not seem so strange after all. There will be a major effect in our future for each and every one of us.

2. Tuberculosis eradication

It is no secret that the Philippines lead in the number of cases in tuberculosis. Tuberculosis in the Philippines is commonly cause through the air, and in our country we are known for congested houses in small areas, so this common bacteria in our country spreads quite easily. An eradication of this would not just help in our country’s economy, but it would simply make our country somewhat cleaner.
